This section is here to provide some useful information for those working with electrospray deposition. Published examples of electrospray experiments can be found in the research section, but here you will eventually (when they're ready) some technical notes and user guides.
Pumping requirements
Our UHV4 systems are tested with the following pumping arrangement. Equivalent pumps from any manufacturer of your choice should give the same performance (examples given are for Varian pumps):
Stage 1: Scroll or rotary vane with displacement >100 l/min (e.g. SH110 scroll) - typical pressure 10-1 mbar
Stage 2: Scroll or rotary vane with displacement >100 l/min (e.g. SH110 scroll) - typical pressure 10-2 mbar
Stage 3: Turbomolecular pump with displacement > 70 l/s (e.g. V80 Macro-torr turbo backed by SH110 scroll) - typical pressure 10-5 to 10-6 mbar.
Stage 4: System prep-chamber (variety of pumping arrangements typical of systems with a base pressure in the 10-10 mbar range or lower) - typical pressure during deposition <10-8 mbar
It is also possible to use the scroll pump that backs the turbo to pump Stage 2 by placing a tee piece in the backing line. This works with the above pumps, but results may vary with different systems.
