Differential pumping is the backbone of our electrospray deposition systems, taking your electrosprayed molecules from atmospheric pressure down to pressures compatible with typical UHV experiments. For those experiments that require lower pressures than our UHV4i series, you can add an additional differentially-pumped aperture stage.
UHVX Additional differential pumping stage – from £395+VAT
The standard UHVX differential pumping stage comprises a UHV tee with DN35CF (2.75″ CF) pumping port designed for a small turbomolecular pump and mounting flange incorporating an additional 1.6 mm exit aperture designed to match the approximate dimensions of the beam at that position in the beam path.

Options
When ordering the UHVX additional differential pumping stage with one of our UHV4i systems it will be fitted to the system to ensure it is correctly aligned with the base system and your system will be fully assembled with the UHVX stage so that there is no additional mounting of the UHVX required.
The exit aperture of the UHVX is machined directly into the exit flange and is available in the standard 1.6mm matched to the approximate beam size to minimise loss of deposition flux, but is also available in 1 mm diameter for applications where maximum pressure reduction is required at the expense of some loss of flux. The UHVX is also available as a cross for an additional cost instead of a tee for applications where users want to integrate either a pressure gauge or ion flux monitor at this position.
Technical specifications of the UHVX
Mounting: DN35CF (2.75″ CF)
Pumping port: DN35CF (2.75″ CF)
Pumping requirements: Turbo pump (typically 70l/s or higher) – note that this will bring the total pumping requirement of a UHV4i series system combined with the UHVX additional differential pumping stage to 3 roughing pumps and 2 turbo pumps. The best configuration would use one roughing pump on stages 1 and 2 and one roughing pump backing the turbos on stages 3 and 4.
UHVX1 – 1 mm aperture
UHVX16 – 1.6 mm aperture
